Comodo dragon taken may 2009 at Zoo Rotterdam. Do not use!

Comodo dragons live on the comodo islands and are the biggest monitor lizards out there. They kill their prey with the help of their saliva which is full of bacteria and thus poisonous.
They can creep up to a buffalo, bite it, the buffalo will run off, die later from an infection of the bite and the comodo dragon will find it by smelling the dead animal.
When they eat, sometimes big groups of dragons gather and eat together.
They are dangerous to humans and kill some of the inhabitants from time to time.
In zoos they are pretty rare and breeding is very difficult.

Do you think the zoo keepers might get eaten by them?

lol I dont think so. I think they might feed them from outside of the exhibit by throwing the food. Or putting the food in, and afterwards letting the dragons into the exhibit from the stable or a backstage enclosure.

yes I thought about Zoo Prague when I wrote this. Are they the only ones breeding them?
Thank you! This shot was actually taken in an indoor inclosure but it was very bright inside there.

in the Czech republic, yes, as only two ZOOs keep Komodo dragons :D
by the way - right TODAY (!!!!) baby Komodo hatched and it will be tested. Because the baby was "born", although its mom Aranka probably did not mate with a male! This is a rare phenomenon, as female lizard is able to lay and egg without mating with a male. Baby is always a male. Fantastic, is not it?

They are still unsure about it, as there is male in the ZOO, but no mating was recorded and the male Leopardo is very old and almost blind.

wow cool. She simply did it alone :XD: Maybe she was like: "Leopardo is too old for me, I rather produce an egg on my own." :P
